Mike & Carol Are Often Mistakenly Credited with Being the First TV Couple to Share a Bed

Bewitched 1964
Green Acres 1965
The Munsters 1964
The Flintstones 1965
Good Morning World 1967
My Three Sons 1968
1969

This may have been an easy mistake to make because Robert Reed and Florence Henderson seemed to have more scenes in bed together than most other TV Couples. I am guessing this is because of their exceptional chemistry. But there was also a practical reason. Working with six minors who legally had shorter work days, production could continue filming an episode without any of the kids.

  1. Florence always stated they were the first couple and nobody ever corrected her!

  2. I'll defend the Bradys to my dying day, but I've been shouting "What about Bewitched, what about the Munsters!??" for as long as they've made that claim about Mike & Carol! I'm sending this link to 4-5 people! PS. Haha, Green Acres---didn't know!

  3. PS. I've been watching old episodes of "Ozzie & Harriet" this week (from the 1950s) and there's been a BUNCH showing them in bed together. I think they win :)

  4. The true pioneers of bed sharing TV couples are alledgedly "Mary Kay and Johnny," an obscure sitcom that aired on the short lived DuMont Network starting in 1948.

  5. Notice that HGTV didn't even include the chromey bamboo lamp and desk it sits on. There probably wasn't enough space and it was seldomly seen. It didn't coordinate with the two brass bedside lamps anyway. Just another example of items being picked out of the prop house at random for the Brady set.
