The Brady Bunch Set Designers

This is the first time I have ever seen the set designers for The Brady Bunch mentioned by name. Thanks HGTV! The set was so unusual for its time, certainly for its mod style. But no other family sitcom home to this date ever had such open space. I imagine there just simply needed to be wide open playing area to accommodate 9 people, and 6 running kids. So, while the color and design were terrific, it was also quite practical and purposeful.

I was fortunate to be on the set of The Brady Bunch Movie, also on Stage 5, and one thing that really struck me is how much smaller the Brady residence is in real life. It is open and long, but the camera and various camera lens really give it a massive feel that just isn't there. It is much cozier -- more contained and homey in real time and space.

This is a rare reference made about the set in early 1969. I was surprised that the no toilet issue is acknowledged at all, let alone as early here as Fall 1969.

This is an excerpt from a longer, nice article about the very early days of shootings around both the children's schedule, and Florence's absence.
