It was a different house in the pilot that got recast when the series started. Even though it was a different house, it was still supposed to be the same house rather than a new house that they all moved into because it was very plainly stated that Carol and her girls moved into the house of Mike and his boys.
For years I always thought that shot of Mikes house was a motel or something.Then they cut right to the boys having breakfast.Always confused me.
