Supermarket Sets

This corner was the complete set built for a Brady Bunch episode requiring one scene in a supermarket. The Partridge Family built the set below for one scene in one episode of their show. Though always based on time and money, it would be interesting to know what goes into making these decisions of where the time and money is spent. The Partridge Family scene was from their first season, perhaps more attention was being given.  The Brady Bunch scene is from their fourth season, though I can't imagine The Bradys ever looking like this. It might simply be that Bradys unimpressive ratings didn't warrant more money from the network for their production.

Besides the cost of the set, this Partridge Family scene has six camera set ups! The long master shot, the closer shot on the family, the 4 shot, the 2 shot of Shirley and her friend, and the 2 closeups of the ladies. And they have a good number of background extras! Again, all time consuming and more expensive than Carol Brady and her pal who had this two shot, and each had close-ups.

Also, noteworthy that Shirley's supermarket carried brand names on the shelves, like Hi C, Carnation, Heinz. Carol's market has the prop generic labels pasted over real food.  Even the Hi C on her shelf is positioned as 'Hi" in one shelf, and "C" on another.
