It appears to me the iconic Brady Bunch horse is an accidental hero in Brady lore.
Though the Mike Brady home design was ultra 70s, cool and hip, when it was built in 1969, it was filled with old fashioned stock 1950s and 1960s furniture and design, including the large horse.

I think the big guy by the stairs was another indifferent piece in Paramount storage, but he had the good fortune of being placed front and center, by a staircase, and a set design and a cast, that would soon make it iconic.
Many other 1950s and 1960s shows used versions of this equestrian theme in all forms of set decoration.

I have always thought this about the show. It started in 1969. Possibly the only 70s thing about the home were sme of the later fashions the kids started to wear.
