Is this silver wallpaper? What is that piece on the wall?
In the close up it looks like a candle, though I don't guess a candle would be a thing in the 60s.

Candles were around in the 60's. That thing is more likely a metal or opaque glass tube that you light a small candle in rather than a pillar candle.
