The New Academy Museum of Motion Pictures At Jan's Wig Store

Jan's Wig Store

The Academy of Museum of Motion Pictures opened at the old May Company building on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles. It was built in 1940 in the Streamline Moderne style of the time. It's such an iconic storefront. It's interesting to see the angle in this stock shot used on The Brady Bunch episode, where they shoot it from the side and avoid the familiar storefront.

  1. This store turned up as a store in the last episode of It's About Time which is a show Sherwood made in the mid to late 60s.

  2. Very interesting how its hardly changed at all. They sure must have had ALOT of wigs to be that big of a building.

  3. I think it was supposed to be a department store Jan went to, not a mere wig store. It was still the May Co. building at the time, which is what it was probably meant to be, without coming right out and saying it.
